Wayne spent the night in the hospital last night because he was having trouble with balance. He didn't have any. Even with the walker to support him and me to support the walker, he fell, so I called the oncologist's office and they said to have him evaluated.
The same PA who took care of me took care of Wayne too, and we really liked him. He checked for electolite levels and discovered that his sodium and maagnseum levels were low, so after a night of getting them IV and some steroids as well, he is once again home and happy! They forgot to give him his nicotine patch last night, and he was really, really ready to leave.
So that begs the question: will he manage to quit or not. I am betting on not and doing my absolute best not to bug him about it, but it's hard when the doctor tells him that his treatment will work better if he stops smoking. His first stop at home?? The deck of course and a cigerette.
I am very encouraged by the way he came back so fast. He didn't the two previous times. And I have a very tentive reading of a brain CT. There appear to be three tumors. Now having said that, I will also tell you that it's harder to differenciate with tumors with a CT than an MRI. However, he started with four tumors and two lesions, so this might be good news. But it's still to soon to know. He will get another MRI in two weeks and then we will go from there.
Thanks again for all your prayers and love. I have been reading "Chicken Soup for the Survivor's Soul" and it's amazing how many people have come back from something like he has and are alive years later to tell the tale.
Oops. I think I out the cart before the horse. Wayne is not able to stand up again. He fell out of his chair and because he signed out AMA this morning when the physical therapist said he was safe, we can't take him back yet. Fern is going to try to get us a wheelchair for him, but at least he will be able to be at home all day. If he doesnt get better we may take him back for the night. I'm not sure why it came back, and that bothers me more than the fact that he left the hospital too soon.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you are out of the hospital, but what does AMA mean? That is unfamiliar to me. I would think a person would be able to go back to the hospital whenever needed. Especially with what you are going through. Hang in there and remember how much we love you.
ReplyDeleteAgainst Medical Advice. They wanted him to stay; he wanted to go. Once he did that, they had to have criteria for readmit. Ticked me off too!!! But things got a lot better when Fern brought a wheelchair home. Carol Ann is bringing one down tomorrow. Hopefully, this will just be needed when he has chemo.
ReplyDeleteI get not wanting to be in the hospital, but Wayne you really should listen better. (Just kidding, I probbly would have done the same)
ReplyDeleteAt least you were able to find a wheelchair for the time being. I also hope you only needs it during chemo time, and if you need it more often so be it. I guess things like that go with the territory. On my way to work, so will check in later. Love you!!!
Hi, Wayne and Barbara,
ReplyDeleteWayne, don't make too big a deal about this balance thing...I have been relatively unbalanced for years....And Barb, don't let Wayne do anything AMA!!! Because- you want to keep the doctors on your side, and if you do not follow their instructions, they feel unappreciated. You are to ALWAYS bow at their feet, smile real big, and thank them for their help. You know, kinda like saying "Yes, Sir!" to the 6'4" highway patrolman as he is writing your ticket. Keep 'em happy!!
Denise had foot surgery today for a "tailor's bunion," which is a mis-alignment of the little toe to the long bone behind it. She is doing well. The whole thing went quickly and easily.
We are thinking of you guys constantly. I will burn a stick of incense for you today, Wayne, so if you smell exotic oils in the air, it's me!!
Y'all take care.
We love you,
John and Denise
So if you are still going to the doctor in Missoula today I hope all goes well, and if you are not going I still hope you have a fantastic day. Hope your balance is improving and you are feeling stronger. You need to let the walker and wheelchair know that you are the boss. Love you.
ReplyDeleteI just saw on the news that it is 27 degress in Missoula. Brrrrrrrrrr! I guess it is that time of the year. The nights have been cold here also, but days have been fairly nice. Hope all is going good and you are feeling well. Thinking of you always. Love you.

I was wondering why nothing had been posted for a few days. Hope you are feeling better Barb and are out of the hospital. And Wayne, you stay out of the hospital or we might begin to think that you just like to flirt with the nurses. (Just kidding.)Love you both.
ReplyDeleteJust to let everyone know, I got to see Wayne last week and I thought he looked great. We will be down again this week-end and I think he should go out hunting with us.
